Disc Replacement

A motion-preserving alternative to fusion for cervical and lumbar disc disease.

Preserve motion. Restore function.

Total disc replacement removes the painful, degenerated disc and replaces it with an artificial implant designed to move the way a healthy disc does. For the right patients, it gives the pain relief of a fusion while keeping the spine's motion, which protects the levels above and below from faster wear.

Cervical Disc Replacement

For neck pain or arm pain caused by a worn disc in the cervical spine. Dr. Hirsch performs the procedure through a small incision at the front of the neck, and most patients return home the same day.

Lumbar Disc Replacement

For mechanical low back pain caused by a single degenerated disc. The artificial disc preserves motion at that level and lets patients return to activity, often without the long-term limits of a lumbar fusion.
