Cervical Disc Replacement
An evidence-based alternative to fusion. It decompresses the nerve the way a fusion does, while keeping the treated level moving.

Fusion Is Not the Only Option.
When a cervical disc needs to be removed, fusion has been the standard approach. Cervical disc replacement is another option. The damaged disc is removed, the nerve is decompressed, and an artificial disc is placed so the neck keeps moving.
Who It May Be Right For.
Disc replacement is an option for patients with cervical disc disease causing arm pain, numbness, or weakness. Dr. Hirsch reviews each patient's imaging in detail to decide whether replacement or fusion is the better choice, and explains the reasoning.
What to Expect.
The surgery is performed through a small incision in the front of the neck. Most patients go home the same day or the next morning. Dr. Hirsch reviews the recovery timeline and post-operative instructions with you beforehand.
